The attorney general has filed suit against a Worcester-based company for allegedly devising a scam to defraud the owners of timeshare units in Dennisport. Martha Coakley's office yesterday also obtained a temporary restraining order against Jeffrey Riebman and his company, Timeshare Advocates. For months, Riebman has contacted owners of timeshares at the Edgewater Beach Resort, saying he could help them obtain full refunds, according to the complaint.

Nicolas Cage is being sued by his former business manager, who claims lavish spending, not his advice, is to blame for the actor's financial problems. Samuel Levin filed a countersuit in Beverly Hills less than a month after the star (pictured) filed a US$20 million lawsuit against Levin for fraud and claimed he had led him towards financial ruin. Levin's suit says he tried to warn Cage when he was hired in 2001 that Cage was outspending even his large Hollywood pay cheques.

A prominent entertainment law firm is suing Rod Stewart for $3.3 million in legal fees it claims he owes. Glaser, Weil, Fink, Jacobs, Howard & Shapiro filed the case Tuesday in Los Angeles. The firm has numerous high-profile clients and recently won judgments for architect Frank Gehry and television host Bob Barker.

In the latest skirmish in his war with TLC, Jon Gosselin has filed a $5 million claim against the network, saying its representatives damaged his reputation and career by preventing him from working with other media outlets. In the suit, the reality star dad claims that the network contacted various media outlets he'd been in touch with to persuade them to stop dealing with him. Ted Arneault, former chief executive officer of MTR Gaming Group Inc., has filed a lawsuit claiming the company owes him hundreds of thousands of dollars. A complaint filed Oct. 6 in Hancock County Circuit Court names MTR Gaming Group, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort and Jeffery Jacobs, chairman of the board of directors of the company, as defendants. An amendment to his original contract stated that if Arneault agreed to leave the company two months earlier than planned in 2008, Mountaineer ...

The Utah district court, Judge Ted Stewart, a new face, presiding, has set November 23 for a status conference in the matter of SCO v Novell, the case over who owns Unix that the appeals court sent back to be heard by a jury. Novell is expected to do what it can to delay the case from getting on the docket. It could ask for a stay because it wants to appeal to the Supreme Court, a motion it made to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver and got turned down so fast heads are still spinning.

A judge has tossed out a decision - for now at least - that could have cost PepsiCo Inc. $1.26 billion after the soft drink maker didn't respond to a lawsuit claiming it stole the idea for bottled water. The decision Friday by a Wisconsin court means PepsiCo will get its say in court - now that it has found out about the case. Two men claim PepsiCo violated trade secrets.

NEW YORK CITY-Coventry Real Estate Advisors filed a $500-million lawsuit Wednesday against Developers Diversified Realty, alleging that DDR committed fraud, malfeasance, mismanagement, violation of fiduciary and contractual obligations and self-dealing in a dozen retail properties DDR was leasing and managing for Coventry. In a release, locally based Coventry said it had terminated DDR as leasing and managing agent of those assets. A spokesman for DDR denies Coventry's allegations.
